After a violent coup topples the Joseon dynasty, King Yi Hong-wi is dethroned and sent into exile. Meanwhile, in the remote mountain settlement of Gwangchungol, village chief Eom Heung-do struggles to provide for his people. He volunteers Cheongnyeongpo as a place of exile, hoping it will bring great fortune. But instead of a powerful noble, he receives the fallen royal and tasked with watching him, he grows increasingly troubled by the boy who has lost the will to live.
